KS
Alumni Usher in New Airplanes for the
Hawaii
Air National Guard

Thirteen years ago, LTC Kevin
D. Garcia piloted the new C-130 aircraft from Marietta, Georgia,
to Hickam AFB for the Hawaii Air Naional Guard. The Hercules
C-130 aircraft were the latest cargo aircraft with glass cockpits
and "state-of-the-art" positioning systems.
In February, Kamehameha alumni
Bob Chowhoy, and Kimo Lowe delivered the first two new C-17's
for the same Guard unit. The C-17 aircraft are more technologically
advanced than the B-747, and can land in shorter distances.
The mission of the Air Guard
successfully envolves around the dedication of many KS alumni
who work the flightlines and support function behind the scenes.
Other key alumni who've made the Guard the best in the nation
include: Adrian Kinimaka, Larry Kauleinamoku, Damon Pescaia,
Mike Akiona, Lani Mahi, Walt Kaneakua, and Joe Kaihiapo.
The acquisition of these
airpleanes were made possible through the hard work, dedication,
and vision of Sen. San Inouye and Major General Edward V.
Richardson. The Hawaii Air National Guard has been a positive
asset for the Nation and the State of Hawaii, flying defense
missions, transport, and humanitarian airlift.
If you would like to fly
airplanes, or be part of the flying team at the Hawaii Air
National Guard, feel free to contact Kelley Machado (KS 84)
at 488-1038.
