On April 28, 2006, at our 8th annual golf tournament held at Mililani Golf Course, the Alumni Glee Club's latest CD - Through the Years - was introduced. Those in attendance were not only treated to a personal performance by the club, but also saw Melia Carpenter Felix, '76, perform a beautiful hula rendition of 'Honolulu', one of the freatured numbers on the CD. 'Through the Years" is a collection of 20 of the best arrangements taken from three previous LP (Long Play) recording - 'Na MeleO Hawaii', "In Concert' and "Reaching Out-Touching You'. Flip McDiarmiad, III, (Hula Records), Director Aaron Mahi ('71) and club president Clif Carpenter ('55) spent countless hours screening and reviewing all three albums before making the final selections. Using the latest audio technology, these tunes were transferred to a compact disc and the results were incredible. These recordings were made at a special time in our lives, says Club president, Clif Carpenter. The chemistry was perfect. Club director Dorothy Gillett ('36) arranged nearly all of our music and new exactly how to extract the best sounds from the men. The members themselves had the magical quality of maturity, resonance and vocal register. Recorded between 1956 and 1971, we were 'in our prime'. As with the Charles E. King songbooks, this is truly a collector's item and should be in the home of every Kamehameha ohana. It is very possible you may never hear this kind of music again. Our current director is Aaron Mahi, '71, and we continue to invite new members to join the club.
Cost of the CD is $20 and may be purchased through any glee club member, the Kamehameha Schools Store or by calling Clif Carpenter (808) 382-8362 or by e-mail to: clifcarp@yahoo.com
